چکیده
PurposeTo compare the adverse side effects of fractionated stereotactic photon beam radiotherapy (fSRT) with proton (PBR) in patients uveal melanoma (UM).MethodsA retrospective study investigating 306 UM treated fSRT (N=153) by Rotterdam Ocular Melanoma Study group (ROMS), The Netherlands, between 1999–2014 or PBR at Royal Liverpool University Hospital and Clatterbridge Cancer Centre, Bebington, United Kingdom, 1993–2014. tumours were matched based on sex, left right eye, TNM classification, posterior margin ? > 3mm fovea optic disc.ResultsThe five-year actuarial rates tumour recurrence 4.5% for 6.1% PBR. For PBR, maculopathy 14.9% 12.4%, vitreous haemorrhage 29.4% 4.7%, respectively. Only (HR: 0.19, 95% CI: 0.07–0.56) was more common after compared to Overall, larger risk factors secondary enucleation.ConclusionsBoth treatments have excellent local control. In groups, only effect showing a significant difference groups.

Proton beam radiotherapy of iris melanoma.
PURPOSE To report on outcomes after proton beam radiotherapy of iris melanoma. METHODS AND MATERIALS Between 1993 and 2004, 88 patients with iris melanoma received proton beam radiotherapy, with 53.1 Gy in 4 fractions. RESULTS The patients had a mean age of 52 years and a median follow-up of 2.7 years. The tumors had a median diameter of 4.3 mm, involving more than 2 clock hours of iris in ...
متن کاملPredictive factors for the development of rubeosis following proton beam radiotherapy for uveal melanoma.
AIMS/BACKGROUND Proton beam radiotherapy can effectively treat primary uveal melanomas of any size. Some patients, however, develop adverse late effects following treatment and the purpose of this study was to determine which factors give rise to a poor local outcome. METHODS The hospital records from a first cohort of 127 patients treated by protons from 1989 to 1992 were reviewed retrospect...

AIM To evaluate proton-beam radiotherapy (PBRT) in the management of uveal melanoma in Scotland. METHODS A retrospective review was undertaken on all patients receiving PBRT for uveal melanoma (1994-2005). Data obtained included: gender, past ocular/medical history, age, presenting complaint(s), diagnosis, laterality, tumor location/ultrasound characteristics, visual acuity (VA) and intraocul...
متن کاملProton beam radiotherapy of choroidal melanoma: the Liverpool-Clatterbridge experience.
PURPOSE To report on outcomes after proton beam radiotherapy of choroidal melanoma using a 62-MeV cyclotron in patients considered unsuitable for other forms of conservative therapy. METHODS AND MATERIALS A total of 349 patients with choroidal melanoma referred to the Liverpool Ocular Oncology Centre underwent proton beam radiotherapy at Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology (CCO) between January...
متن کاملProstate-specific antigen kinetics following hypofractionated stereotactic body radiotherapy boost as post-external beam radiotherapy versus conventionally fractionated external beam radiotherapy for localized prostate cancer
BACKGROUND Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) has emerged as an effective treatment for localized prostate cancer. The purpose of this study was to compare the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) kinetics between conventionally fractionated external beam radiotherapy (CF-EBRT) and SBRT boost after whole pelvis EBRT (WP-EBRT) in localized prostate cancer. METHODS A total of 77 patients with loc...
